EV training

Post by BetrayaL on Sat Apr 25, 2009 10:12 pm

Yeah, so I was ev training just fine on my soon to be Umbreon. I raised its speed ev's to the max, then I lvl'd it and got the speed ev's as well as evolved it into an Umbreon, right? Then I went to go to train the other stat I wanted boosted, but I didn't get the results after I capped it and lvl'd again. I started to notice that the speed ev's I trained on my Kadabra also didn't come through. Is it a bug where evolved forms don't count Ev's or some crap? What's the deal? Get back to me on this, thanks.

Yes I also was having issues with the speed thing, I defeated about 90 magikarps and thought to get a lot of ev for speed and I leveled and only got 1 stat for speed =(

Well Ive checked, it's working just fine.

However, there are limits to the effort thing.
No stat can get more than 255 effort.
And the total effort points can't be higher than 510

In other words, if you want to max speed and attack, any point of effort in special attack of defense for example prevents you from doing so.
Basically, if you have fought more than 500 battles the chances are you maxed out on EV's also on places you might not want the effort to be.
U'll need to get berries to undo some points and specifically train on a differend stat.

10 base - 31 IV - 0 EV on lvl (10/20) = (10 SPD/15 SPD)
10 base - 31 IV - 255 EV on lvl (10/20) = (36 SPD/66 SPD)

So in other words, if you see hardly any increase, you are probably maxed out. (Some pokemon gives more than 1 point of effort, and could be in differend stats aswell)
And at low level EV's have less effect than at higher lvl's.
So even though te increase might be little, it will get more the higher the lvl gets.

I can assure you my Starmie didn't kill anywhere near 500 pokemon.I also have a site that list how much EV each pokemon gives so i was being very careful when it came to this Starmie. I am 100% certain that when i began training it speed EVs only that it was no where near the limit and it was still not seeing any sort of bonus from the EV.

Is there anyway you can check just the specific pokemon in question? I wouldn't have a problem testing another Staryu/Starmie, but it took me a long time to get the nature i wanted.

Edit: I also trained my Gastly the same way and it was around this level it was getting huge boost in speed, but for my Starmie its nada.

Yea also, I just barely caught my pikachu and only fought magikarps and still no significant increase in speed.

Well PM me when you are online, I can read out your Pokemon to see if their stats are indeed changed accordingly.

Ive seen enough, EV dont seem to work right. Next we it'll figure out why.
Its not that you dont have the stats, they are not calculated correctly.

I think this started not very long ago, perhaps after the last update?

I was then starting to get trouble with my poliwag's speed

Should we stop training EVs till this is fixed? It would suck to spend a few hours on a pokemons EVs to have no effect or to have to start over.

Well if you want to stop training or not is up to you, basically your training will still be recoreded.
Once I fix the problem the EV stats are used and you WILL see the difference.
Again, the gain in EV is there, but it's used correcly when calculating the stats.
